Everything you need to know to make the most of your Yoga sessions

Yoga is the ultimate sports discipline. It offers the perfect harmony between work on posture, flexibility and the capacity for mental relaxation, making it an ideal choice for any type of athlete. Specifically, one of the features that most characterizes this discipline is its versatility; also that it is suitable for all ages and abilities in terms of sports proficiency.

For guests of GF Victoria ***** GL,  it has also become one of the most in-demand activities. The great open-air sessions that our colleague Alexis teaches in the Japanese Garden have more and more followers, so we thought we would offer some tips so that you can make the most of these classes and incorporate this discipline into your sports routine.

Comfort above all

Although you may begin to practice yoga in search of physical and mental satisfaction, you should always ensure that the exercise is carried out in the most optimal conditions. Its not necessary that you attend your sessions in a stylish fitness outfit if this doesn´t make you feel comfortable. Our recommendations: choose tights or soft cotton trousers, a vest top or a sports top (better to cope with the good weather in the south of Tenerife) and non-slip socks, in case you don´t wish to go barefoot.

Focus on breathing (and everything else will flow better)

In a discipline where flexibility is being worked, breathing control is especially important. If you want to avoid injuries and finish the sessions feeling good, then take the time to understand your process of contraction and relaxation, so that your whole body is oxygenated.

Don´t underestimate your flexibility

For many years, we have heard that flexibility cannot be worked beyond a certain age, but with the correct manipulation, the possibilities can be most surprising. The yoga sessions will help you discover the pleasure of stretching spontaneously, to the point where your own body will be the one to ask you to keep up the habit.

Balance is not just a physical issue

We know … there are some almost impossible positions in the world of yoga, but, as we have already said, nothing is impossible when done correctly. Your mental and emotional state are fundamental when working with balance and, despite appearances among elite athletes, the key is to keep the body sufficiently relaxed. Make the effort to clear your mind and you will see how much better you will feel.

Investigate the different yoga types

There are as many types of yoga as there are personalities. If you try a technique that does not convince you completely, due to its physical demand or because it is closer to meditation than you like, then you should bear in mind that there will always be a perfect type for you. Investigate, test and draw your own conclusions about the styles which are currently taught, from the well-known Bikram to others such as Hatha, Anusara, Kundalini …

Meditation: a fundamental step

In the everyday rush, we continually see people who leave Yoga sessions before finishing the class. This is precisely one of the most important moments, because it is normally dedicated to a brief meditation, very necessary to put in its place everything previously learned. Take advantage of your holiday in our hotel to enjoy the classes right to the end, and you can even take the initiative and make use of our facilities to carry out your own meditations. We are sure that your body will appreciate it
