Known as the Enchanted Forest, it is one of the most interesting and essential trails on the island of Tenerife. It houses a small but leafy sample of laurel forest, a representative plant reserve of the islands that make up the so-called Macaronesia, among which is the Canary Islands.

Tenerife has conditions that will never cease to surprise you. Every corner of the island is a change from what you have visited before. In this case, the route through the Enchanted Forest will make you fall in love with Tenerife and this natural jewel called Anaga Rural Park. It is one more piece of the entertaining puzzle that makes up the island and that more people dare to discover on their own.

The El Pijaral Integral Nature Reserve, where the route is located, occupies just over 300 hectares of the Anaga massif. For conservation reasons, it is necessary to request a special permit to travel through it. The process is simple, quick and free through this page .

The Enchanted Forest trail is a circular route of 6.7 kilometres. It is a fairly easy trek that is mostly done on flat ground.

How to get there?

From Santa Cruz

Head towards San Andrés and take the El Bailadero/Taganana detour. When you find a new detour to El Bailadero, take it. You will be on the TF-123 road, where the start of the route is located between kilometres 4-5.

From San Cristobal de La Laguna

Head towards Monte de las Mercedes and take the El Bailadero turnoff to follow the TF-123. There you will find the start of the trail between kilometres 4-5.

Along the way, the road is of great scenic beauty and has many curves. So, although it is not many kilometres, it takes time. When you are between kilometres 4-5, which is known as the Ensillada area, you will see a small parking area and a barrier.

First part of the trail

Once you have found it, you may wonder where the trail starts, whether it starts at the barrier or at the path that is right next to the sign. It starts right there. It is a circular route, so we will arrive at the same starting point.

The trail has no signs, except for a few stone cairns that take a while to appear. You should always follow the best route.

A great natural spectacle will soon begin. Walking through tunnels formed by moss-covered tree branches is a very mysterious experience. In some sections it is completely muddy and you will have to juggle to avoid the mud.

After an hour's walk you will reach Roque Anambro, a stone mass that can be clearly seen. From there you can enjoy fantastic views. Further on, when you reach Mirador del Tejo, you will have plenty of room to rest. The viewpoint offers magnificent views of the hamlets of Taganana, Roque de las Bodegas, Almáciga and Benijo.

Second part of the trail

From the viewing point you will see two paths leading off. The first one goes through tunnels of vegetation that lead to the coast or to the Chamorga hamlet. Or the second option is wider and sandy and leads to the starting point.

This stretch is a bit more monotonous, but it has some surprises in store, such as several caves dug into the rock. After about another hour's walk, you reach the TF-123 road. Once there, you can choose to return to the car via it. However, the safest option is to take the leafy path on the right again, slightly hidden. After a climb, you will find the fork at the beginning again and find the parking lot, and this will conclude the walk.

The gastronomic brand of the new five-star luxury hotel from GF Hotels is making its way into the avant-garde cuisine of the Canary Islands

The gourmet restaurant is presented as the space that completes the circle of exclusive experiences that GF Victoria offers to its guests. We speak of the care of the mind, body and spirit as a philosophy that is perceived as soon as you enter the room; the excellent views of the sea and the relaxing atmosphere that the place presents invite you to enjoy a multitude of flavors, in a serene environment that is also full of expectation to discover the surprises that the team led by the head chef, Fran Expósito, and the restaurant's maître d', Mayta Meza, has prepared.

The proposals are based on fresh, local, top-quality products selected at the source. A culinary space of great luxury takes great care of these products and their preparation. In the kitchen of Donaire there is an atmosphere of a creative “laboratory” in which a true obsession with introducing a signature stamp is breathed.

This is a team that has been tested in the best local, national and international kitchens, where “it is not enough to know how to cook and have talent”, says Expósito, convinced of the level that his team must have. When talking about his colleagues, he says that most of them are young, “but with constant training, collecting the latest techniques and trends at fairs and events around the world, and that forces you to go one step further in that dish, in that final proposal that we serve to the diner”.

The head chef says that the Canarian culinary tradition is present on the menu and that “guests will know what a stew tastes like, but will surely find an unexpected presentation of the dish or a texture far from what they can see in a traditional restaurant.”

Canarian-inspired cuisine that encourages the consumption of local products such as wines (16 references of local wines) or cheeses (8 references). The dynamism is also reflected by Mayta Meza, the restaurant's maître, who defends the search for new proposals and invites you to enjoy what he describes as the 'Donaire Experience'. Meza assures that the menu of a classic luxury restaurant does not usually change much, but "we break with that concept and although we have just opened, we are determined to always surprise the guest."

The tasting menus of his new gastronomic proposal include products so closely linked to the island's imagination, such as the Guayonje onion, the black potato or dishes with local 'black pig', "always looking for new ways of cooking and avant-garde presentations," concludes the maître d'.

Daniela's cocktails have a much more innovative vision and are inspired by a multitude of elements, such as research into techniques and flavours to obtain unique and impressive cocktails. Sounds appetising, right?

“We will continue to offer international cocktails, but the idea is that the customer takes something more and can have an experience”

If you are looking for more creative inspiration, you have found the ideal person for your immersion in the world of cocktails. Daniela Garbi is a true fan of combining flavours and has arrived to bring the freshness of the latest trends in this art.

“My school was Dry Martini in Barcelona, where I learned everything about technique and also customer service. I went to London with the intention of improving my English and getting to know the birthplace of cocktail making, and I found myself in a very exclusive establishment serving cocktails to celebrities like David Beckham or Nikki Minaj, who were looking for intimacy and well-prepared drinks. In Ibiza, on the other hand, I learned a lot about how to deal with VIP clients and, at the same time, how to offer a highly personalized service.”

As a true lover of the island, and despite the fact that one of her greatest inspirations is found in travel, Garbi has chosen the quality of life in Tenerife to continue her career. “From each of the places I have been, I have taken away different experiences and sensations,” she tells us in reference to her inspiration. “I have my knowledge, I know how to make a Daiquiri, but I travel and see how they make them in different places and then I decide which is the best recipe to offer. Even if I know the classic recipe, I can always give it a personal touch.”

She is passionate about the world of cocktails, which is why she always tries to reinvent herself and learn from everything around her: “I look at everything with a bartender’s eyes . It affects the way I dress and how I approach life. I see a plant and think about how to make a cocktail with its leaves. It is very similar to the sensitivity that chefs have, although they are years ahead of us.”

Daniela is delighted with the cocktail concept of our hotel and also highlights the detox juice menu that she will be working on personally. “Our detox bar will have natural options for guests who take care of themselves: fruits, vegetables, spices… Everything prepared at the moment and with all the necessary machinery and technology. We will also have the freshest cocktails by the pool and, of course, a signature menu for those who want to dare and innovate . We will continue to offer international cocktails – Manhattan fans will definitely have them – but the idea is that the client takes away something more and can interact. In other words, have an experience.”

With several awards under her belt, Classic Cocktail Champion at the Costa Adeje Tournament, first place in the Jerry Thomas Competition and semi-finalist in the Worldclass Competition in the Canary Islands, Garbi has no shortage of funny anecdotes to tell us.

As he recalls from his time in Barcelona, “Once a very calm man came and asked me for whiskey cream with cola, so I started to prepare it as if it were nothing. He immediately said to me 'stop, stop, stop... you're incredible because you're the only bartender I've said this to and she doesn't make a strange face'. It turns out he was an undercover critic, one of those who go to evaluate places to give awards. Obviously, he wasn't going to take it - we all know that it's a sacrilege in the world of cocktails - but it was his way of testing and seeing if he was capable of attending to the craziest requests of the clients.”
