Yoga is the ultimate sporting discipline.
Its perfect harmony between posture work, flexibility and mental relaxation make it a perfect choice for any type of athlete. Precisely, one of the features that most characterises this sport is its versatility... and it is suitable for all ages and abilities in terms of sporting abilities.
For the guests of the
Hotel GF Victoria***** GL has also become one of the most popular activities. The wonderful outdoor sessions taught by our colleague Alexis in the
Japanese Garden have more and more followers, so we have thought of offering you some tips so that you can make the most of the classes and incorporate this discipline into your sports routine.
Comfort above all
Although one begins to practice yoga in search of physical and mental satisfaction, it is your job
to ensure that the exercise is carried out in the most optimal conditions . It is not necessary to go to your sessions in the most technical fitness outfit if it does not make you feel comfortable at all.
Our recommendation : choose some leggings or soft cotton trousers, a tank top or a sports bra (better to cope with the good weather in the south of Tenerife) and some non-slip socks, in case you are not a barefoot person.
Focus on your breathing (and everything will flow better)
Especially in a discipline where flexibility is so important,
breathing management is essential . If you want to avoid injuries and finish your sessions feeling the best, make sure you understand your contraction and relaxation process and allow your entire body to get oxygen.
Don't underestimate your flexibility
We have been hearing for years that flexibility cannot be worked on after a certain age, but with the right work, the possibilities are amazing.
Yoga sessions will help you discover the taste for stretching spontaneously, to the point where your own body will ask you to maintain the habit.
Balance is not just a physical issue
We know… there are almost impossible postures in the world of yoga, but – as we have already insisted – nothing is impossible when done correctly.
Your mental and emotional state are fundamental to working on balance . And despite appearances among elite athletes, the key is to keep the body sufficiently relaxed. Make the effort to escape and you will see how you improve.
Research the different types of yoga
There are as many types of yoga as there are personalities . If you find that a discipline doesn't quite convince you because of its physical demands or because it's closer to meditation than you prefer, you should keep in mind that there will always be a perfect modality for you.
Research, try and draw your own conclusions about the styles currently taught, from the well-known Bikram to others such as Hatha, Anusara, Kundalini...
Meditation: a fundamental step
The rush of everyday life means that we often see people leaving Yoga sessions before the end of the class.
This is precisely one of the most important moments because it is usually used for a short meditation , which is very necessary to put everything previously learned into perspective. Take advantage of your holiday at our hotel to enjoy the classes until the end, and even take the initiative and use our facilities to do your own meditations. We are sure that you will appreciate it.
